Overview

The USSA and USSAF are national organizations that served 3.3 million sportsmen/women in 2009 nationwide.  These organizations, their staff and volunteer leadership are well respected within the community they serve.  Charity Navigator, a watchdog organization in the nonprofit community, bestowed their highest rating of four stars on the USSAF.

The USSA is a 501(c)4, a membership based organization, who's prime role is to represent sportsmen/women at the state and federal level.  USSAF is a 501(c)3 organization who's prime roles include educate and litigation.  A distinguished national volunteer board plays an active role in the affairs of these organizations.  Both entities  are positioned well to make significant advances in the next five years if the relationship building process can reach a level that produces the resources required.  

Position Description

The Relationship Director is a new position that is being designed to play a significant leadership role to achieve a new level of support from both current and new donors.
The Relationship Director will be in charge of the development function including supervising appropriate operations staff, the renewal process and the new acquisition plan.   The director will work closely with the president to support his efforts to cultivate key prospects.  While part of the director's responsibilities will warrant time spent at the Columbus national offices, the position also will also require out of town travel.  

Qualifications

The new director will need to assimilate quickly into a highly respected and successful team of professional leaders. The individual selected must have the energy and determination to make a difference, a self-starter, an innovator, one who is willing to take calculated risks, thrives in a can-do environment and can't wait to breakout from the crowd.    

Required skills:
A successful track record of closing sales/acquisitions
Development experience in annual campaigns, electronic fund raising, project sales, major gifts, capital campaigns and planned giving
Good writing skills including correspondence, proposals and support literature
Ability to conduct prospect research when required
Professional experience in a nonprofit environment
Relationship building skills to attract major donors
Minimum academic requirements an undergraduate degree - graduate degree preferred
Related Certification a plus, i.e., CFRE
