Job Title: Grants Manager

Responsible for managing the preparation, creation, and submission of foundation and government grants and major corporate proposals. Duties include research in identifying other prospective public and private grant opportunities for the organization, as well as managing relationships with relevant granting entities. This position reports to the Executive Director and collaborates with fellow staff to ensure that organizational objectives are met. The Grants Manager is trusted to maintain the confidentiality of information and is expected to demonstrate a loyalty to the Orchestra and a commitment to its goals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grants Management
Manage the full range of activities required to prepare, write, edit, assemble, and submit grant proposals to foundation (private and public) and major corporate sources.
Work with Executive Director, finance and other departments to develop program budgets for grants; gather required information and supplemental materials to accompany applications and reports.
Comply with all final reporting as required by foundation and corporate donors in fulfillment of grant guidelines.
Develop, maintain, and update annual Grants Calendar with respective due dates; organize current records in database and in paper files.
Provide periodic updates and reports on grants and funding progress.
Grants Research
Research prospective foundation and corporate grant opportunities for organization, both locally and nationally.
Identify and inform Executive Director and staff of potential funding sources for organizations specific projects and programs.
Research current local and national philanthropic trends.
Participate in brainstorming sessions with staff to determine funding needs for new programming and identifying grant prospects.
Stewardship of Funders and the Community
Assist Executive Director in cultivating relationships with potential and/or current funding sources.
Develop and maintain relationships with appropriate foundation, government and corporate funders as appropriate.
Meet with funding personnel and track progress of grants via emails and phone calls as needed.
Provide updates to funders on progress of grants as appropriate.
Work with Executive Director to invite funders to various programs and concerts.
Other Responsibilities
Participate in Annual Fund campaign through creation of letters and related development materials.
Assist Patron Services Manager with acknowledgement letters and recognition of gifts; provide information for concert program donor recognition list as needed.
Support Executive Director and development committee through identification of lapsed foundation or corporate donors and development of effective action plan.
Assist Communications and Special Events Manager with the annual fundraiser and other donor-related events.
Work with Executive Director to provide development input for all written institutional materials (including annual report, development report).
Attend and participate in development committee meetings and other committee meetings as needed.
Qualifications:
College degree required and minimum two to three years experience with grant writing. Strong written communication and editing skills, with the ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals. Experience working in a deadline-driven environment within a small but faced-paced organization. Detail-oriented, with the ability to work independently and within a team. Must handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Able to monitor and meet income goals. Knowledge of fundraising information sources, and familiarity with research techniques for grant prospect research. Computer skills required, including Microsoft Office and Excel. Knowledge of the arts a plus.
